Week Three, Exercise Five

Well, Flicker is not as easy as I thought it was going to be. It was easy to upload pictures, super easy to manipulate and edit, fun to search--but I had a heck of a time downloading from Flicker to the blog--and I need a cancel button. I tried making a "badge" and pasting the html code into the blog--nothing. I redid all of the tutorials. I twisted and turned. Finally, I right clicked the picture and saved it to my computer. I also discovered you can save in picnik.com. Is there something else I'm missing??
My photos were taken of the library floor. The original configuration grew incrementally from three Internet computers twelve years ago to twenty-four. The design became a liability when I lost staff. The computers were positioned back to back because of the electric which means to see what the students were doing, I had to bi locate. So, at the end of the school year my techs were kind enough to change the computer configuration. Hopefully, this arrangement will work!

Week Two, Exercise Three & Four

I loved the Avatar--better than paper dolls and plastic colorforms--although Ninja turtles colorforms were cool. Somehow no matter how many eyes and clothes I tried on, it didn't come close to looking like me--there was no way to stretch out the body. We'll have to pretend.
The blog was easy to setup, but I have used gmail for quite a while and PHP templates. Now that I've taken the plunge, I've set up one for my bookclub. This should be interesting.

Week Two, Exercise Two

The easiest habit among the 7 1/2 Lifelong Learning Habits is #6, using technology to your advantage. Audio books are my passion. I began many years ago on my long drive to work with books on tape, then graduated to books on CD, and now I'm up to books on my iPod. I started lending my personal collection to the staff at school, then I bought Playaways for the students. I belong to Audible.com. Going there is like a trip to the candy store. I've not tried Librivox or Project Gutenberg's audio books--that's next. The hardest habit of the 7 1/2 for me is viewing problems as challenges and learning experiences, #3. Intuitively, I know I learn by them, but for the most part, I see them as lack of planning and forethought on my part. I'll have to be more aware.

Week One, Exercise One

The Internet was just made for me--the lazy librarian. When I want to use History in Dispute, instead of using the index and collecting ALL the volumes that refer to my topic , then xeroxing or writing out what I need; I go to my virtual library, put in the search terms and print, print, print-- just like my students. Or if I am in a frugal mood (prepared ahead of time) I save it to my flash drive. Ain't life grand and a heck of a lot easier!
